Job Description
Machinist CNC Lathe / Mill Programmer / Operator
Summary: Program, set up, operate, and perform autonomous maintenance on CNC lathes and mills. Machine precision production parts using CNC machines and a variety of manual machine tools. Operate mechanical equipment using blueprints and schematics to ensure proper dimensions and tolerance levels.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Read technical drawings and set up the machines in accordance with these blueprints
Use computer software to create cutting paths and program machines using G-Code accordingly
Perform quality assurance tests to ensure products meet design specifications
Adjust machine cutting paths or settings to optimize production while maintaining quality
Consider tools required to cut materials and program machines accordingly
Troubleshoot and resolve problems with machines as they arise
Perform basic machine maintenance such as cleaning and sharpening
Consults with engineering and other appropriate personnel regarding product information such as design, capacity and purpose, and types of material to be used to fabricate part or product
Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, or engineering information to determine methods or sequences of operations needed to fabricate products
Calculates dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and calipers.
Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines
Sets up, adjust, and operate all the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools to perform precision machining operations.
Design fixtures, tooling, or experimental parts to meet special engineering needs
Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process
Dispose of scrap or waste material in accordance with company policies and environmental regulations
Machines parts to exact specifications and tolerances using machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders
Perform experimental machining requiring special tooling and materials
Confer with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems
Other duties as needed.
Education and/or Experience:
Previous experience working in a manufacturing setting is required
Must have strong attention to detail
Familiarity and skill with interpreting technical drawings and blueprints
Skilled at troubleshooting and resolving mechanical or logistical problems that arise
Ability to work independently and closely follow directions is essential
